Plague Doctor

Plague Doctor with exposed eye on one side and elastic strap. Doctor Antonne Zagone wore his Bird Beak Mask for each one of his Bubonic Plague patients! Dr. Zagones’ thought he could spare himself from the plague by wearing his special Bird Beak containing dried flowers (like roses and carnations), herbs (like lavender and peppermint), camphor, or a vinegar sponge, as well as juniper berry, ambergris, cloves, labdanum, myrrh, and storax. The purpose of the mask was to keep away bad smells, known as miasma, which were thought to be the principal cause of the disease. Dr. Zagone believed the herbs would counter the "evil" smells of the plague and prevent them from becoming infected, as he worked and slaved to try and save them from the plague. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Dr. Zagone wore the mask so much it slowly became part of his face and as plague grew stronger the plague took over his flesh rotting away at his ever gruesome Beek, his Body and Soul. .
